Breast Surgery

Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation is one of the most popular surgical procedures in cosmetic surgery in women. Breast Augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase the size of the breast by use of either Implants or Fat grafting.

Implants for Breast Augmentation

In majority of cases, we use the smooth silicone cohesive gel implants and very rarely use the saline implants, unless a patient insists and their a definitive indication to do so.

Fat Grafting for Breast Augmentation

Though less commonly used and more so done for patients who are otherwise planned for another surgery, fat grafting is another surgical way to treat augment the breast. In this, fat from the abdomen, hips, thighs are taken by Liposuction procedure this is then transferred to the breast to increase their size and volume.

Breast Augmentation by Fat grafting is different from that by Implants as in both the goals achieved and methodology is different.

The final result of Breast Augmentation depends on a number of parameters –

  1. Patient’s natural breast shape and size
  2. Patient’s skin tightness
  3. Breast implant used – Size/shape/volume/texture.

Breast Augmentation is one surgery in Cosmetic Surgery where the final outcome of surgery is extremely important and it matches the realistic expectation/goal of the patient.

We during our consultation, have an in-depth discussion with the patient, understanding the patient’s desires and expectations and take her through trail of various sized implants to give the patient an idea of the final outcome, talk her through our  surgical plan and resolve all her queries and then plan for surgery.

Breast Reduction

Breast Reduction is a surgical techniques to reduce the size of the breasts. Reduction in the breast includes removing (excising) all components of breast namely breast glandular tissue, breast fat and the skin over the breast. The nipple is not removed in Breast reduction and only moved to appropriately fit the mound of the new breast shape retaining the blood supply and sensation of the nipple.

Post- Breast surgery recovery period

Patients are usually discharged from the hospital next day on routine medications and stepwise instructions of resuming back work . Breast surgery require 10-14 days to heal as the breasts initially are swollen with slight redness, which eventually settles down with time.

Patients can gradually return to work after about 10-14 days of Surgery. They are advised to avoid any strenuous activity (eg. Gym) and overexertion during this time.
